Here to listen, to support and to help
BACP Registered Counsellor
Counselling for individuals & couples

I am an experienced counsellor who has worked both in private practice and in various organizations providing clinical and psychological support services. I have experience of dealing effectively and sensitively with vulnerable adults and children, groups with learning disabilities and mental health issues, and extensive training and experience working with parents. I have also worked in palliative care and bereavement counselling, and have many years supervised practice of counselling via the telephone.
Clients find me to be open, supportive and approachable. Through years of practice I have developed a deep understanding of the struggles people face in their lives, which allows me to listen to their stories without judging. People have dark corners in their lives that need the light of understanding. I am here to listen, to support and to help you find your own path through.
I approach each client and each session in an individual and client-led way, using my training and experience to follow and explore where and how the client needs. I use a non-judgemental approach and work toward developing with the client a safe and open space to express their true feelings, gain clarity about their situation and explore possibilities for change and resolution.
Creative therapies using sand & symbol, clay, painting and visualisation can be very powerful ways to unlock unknown and underlying issues and long-held emotions, breaking down blocks to new ways of being for people of all ages. Feeling free to engage with and explore the sand unlocks a creative approach in which expression is not hampered by the anxieties and preoccupations of the mind.
I have worked extensively with children between the ages of 5 to 25 years in short and long term therapy, helping them to build resilience. Children are very perceptive and intuitive, but lack the language or experience to untangle and express their thoughts and feelings and reach a clear understanding. In an emotionally charged context, children's attempts to understand invariably reach false conclusions. For example, when abused they perceive that something is wrong, but come to the conclusion they they themselves are bad. I hold full Enhanced CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) clearance.
Working with parents (and other family members where appropriate), I use a counselling approach to explore and understand the individual family dynamic and concern, and work towards outcomes that fit with the individual family culture and needs. I am a Registered Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme) provider; my training in Triple P is valuable in helping understand individual needs and behaviour, but each parent is the expert about their individual family.
I have extensive experience working with families living with autism, helping people on the spectrum make sense of the world they inhabit and also supporting parents to understand their child with autism and how to respond.
